Last Wednesday was all about real-world experiences at SAHS during our annual Opportunity Day with each class giving back or exploring their future.
Freshmen stepped outside the classroom and into the community, building connections and making positive impacts close to home completing 36 community service projects throughout MSAD 54.
Sophomores headed out on job shadows, partnering with employers from Bangor to Augusta to get a firsthand look at a career they voiced interest in knowing more about.
Juniors hit the road for college tours, visiting KVCC, Husson, Thomas, UMF, and Colby, to explore what life after high school could look like and where their next chapter might begin.
Seniors stayed on campus, preparing for life beyond graduation. They built financial skills at our Financial Literacy Fair, collaborated on a senior art exhibit, and tackled the Maine National Guard Challenge Course together.

A community champion is a person who collaborates with a variety of partners to strengthen school, business, and non-profit relationships for the benefit of the community and our students.
Congratulations to Skowhegan Area High School's Spring Community Champion, Rosemary Libby!
Through Rosemaryโs leadership, she is developing a summer scholarship program designed to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent students from participating in summer courses and enrichment camps. By creating and initiating this opportunity, Rosemary is expanding access to meaningful learning experiences and supporting students in exploring interests, building skills, and growing beyond the classroom. The program will help our students grow into future Community Champions, representing Skowhegan Area High School wherever they go.
We are so lucky to have you in our community, Rosemary!

Last week, our Adopt a Classroom Seniors took their last trip to Margaret Chase Smith Community School and Mill Stream Elementary School to see their third grade buddies.
During this fourth and final visit, seniors shared a bit about their high school journey, their plans after graduation, and the teachers who made a difference along the way. They also talked about lessons theyโve learned over the past four years and answered some great questions from the third graders.
After the presentations, students decorated paper graduation caps with their own future goals and aspirations. ๐
A great way to wrap up a meaningful connection between two groups of River Hawks!

Students in Miss Brownโs Dual Enrolled U.S. History class had the option to bring history to life by recreating a meal or snack from the Great Depression era.
By researching and preparing simple, low-cost foods that families often relied on during the 1930s, students explored what daily life looked like during a time of economic hardship. The activity helped students better understand the resourcefulness and resilience people showed during the Great Depression while making a direct connection between historical content and everyday life.

Congratulations to the SAHS Unified Basketball Team! ๐
This March, they won their last home game in front of the student body, 47-44. Our team made great shots, had lots of fun, and the whole school there to cheer them on! Let's give a shoutout to the Messalonskee Unified Team for a great game and their awesome sportmanship. Thank you to all the staff and students that made the atmosphere electric! ๐

A Community Champion is a person who collaborates with a variety of partners to strengthen school, business, and non-profit relationships for the benefit of the community and our students.
Congratulations to Isaac Michaud for being named SAHS's first Community Champion of the school year!
Through his leadership and outreach, Mr Michaud helps bridge the gap between government, education, and civic engagement, ensuring that students see firsthand how public service impacts their daily lives.
As a class advisor for two classes, he is deeply involved in student lifeโsupporting class events, guiding students, and helping young people develop pride and responsibility within their school community. Beyond the classroom, he is organizing an invaluable experience for students to visit the Maine State House, where they will speak directly with state leaders and learn about their day-to-day responsibilities representing the people of Maine.
This hands-on experience allows students to better understand how state government works, how laws are made, and how citizensโespecially young peopleโcan have a voice in shaping the future of their communities. Through his dedication, he continues to strengthen the partnership between MSAD 54, local leaders, and the state government for the benefit of all students.
Thank you for everything you do, Mr Michaud!
