Freshmen Math Course Options

Supplies:

  • Notebook or binder with paper (depends on the teacher)
  • Pencil

Foundations of Algebra

Students who…

  • Struggle with Pre-Algebra Skills (integer operations, knowledge of like terms, distributive property, etc.)
  • *Start at this level may limit the level of math education they can receive throughout high school.
    Not a recommended starting point for students aspiring to attend a 4-year college.

Algebra 1 Part 1 (Algebra over 2 years – year 2 is Algebra 1 Part 2)

Students who…

  • Have some pre-algebra skills but need more
  • Work at a slower pace, or struggle with work completion.
  • Need a reduced instruction time and built-in work support time.
  • *Schedules the student for 2, 80-minute blocks so it is a big-time commitment for the schedule.

Algebra 1

Students who…

  • Have been successful with pre-algebra skills (integer operations, knowledge of like terms, distributive property, etc.)
  • Have the ability to work at a traditional pace.
  • *Aspire to attend a 4-year college should start at this level if academically ready.

Daily Math (taken in conjunction with Algebra 1 if desired)

Students who have been signed up for Algebra 1 but…

  • Need direct support for work completion and time extensions.
  • Have below average to average pre-algebra skills.
  • Daily students need to be willing to work hard for themselves, refusal to work will render the daily algebra assignment useless and take away from other students in the class.

Honors Algebra 1

Students who were unable to take Honors Algebra 1 as an 8th grader, but have performed above and beyond their
peers. They have the intellectual ability to take Algebra 1 at a faster, more in-depth pace.

Geometry

Students who have an algebra credit but are not ready for the rigor of an honors geometry course.

Honors Geometry

Students who have an honors algebra credit and are ready to continue at rigorous level.
