Fine Arts Classes at SAHS
Foundations of Art
In Foundations we learn traditional skills in drawing (drawing realistic figures and people, how to create shadows and forms), painting (how to paint in canvas, how watercolors work, what is abstract art), sculpture (turning drawings into 3-dimensional forms) and Art History (Why have humans made art for 40,000 years? Who was Leonardo da Vinci? Why is a painting of soup cans famous?). It is a deep-dive into how to be an artist.
3-D Design
In 3-D Design we learn how to think and create 3-dimensionally. We learn to take ideas from drawings and make them into different forms of sculpture. Printmaking In Printmaking we learn various ways to create multiple images, which is the basis ofPrintmaking. We will carve designs in blocks, create screenprints, learn to use ink, carving tools and ink rollers.
Personal Directions in Visual Art/Advanced Art
Students who are looking to study art beyond high school or are ready to help design their own direction of learning in the Visual Arts excel in Personal Directions. We will prepare portfolios for College interviews, learn about artists and art movements in-depth, teach and learn from each other through critiques and presentations of our work.
